My thanks to Lucy Childs for these family photos. Lucy said that,

"My father, Geoff, took over as OIC of RNWS Kranji (Kranji Wireless Station) in April 1970. The previous OIC had been Lt Fred Drew. My father was the last OIC of Kranji before the hand over to 9th ANZUK Signal Regiment in December 1971. The base was closed about 1 year after that.



The last 1st Lt. was Sub. Lt. Singleton. The last Chief RMech. was Warmsley.

The last Chief PO Regulator was CPO Farrell.

The last clerk was Mr. Ali.

The last typist was Kasinathan.

The last messenger was Mangudi.

The last captain of HMS Terror was Capt. Bradbury.

My father is particularly interested in the second world war history of Kranji when the base was used for code-breaking.

There were 7 bungalows on the base. We had no. 1 bungalow."

My thanks to Marie Byrne for these photos of Kinloss House. Marie and her husband were given a guided tour of the house, which is now a protected building and has been restored by and is used by AXA University. The outer buildings have all been demolished and the foundations were not removed. If anyone has photo’s of the old house interior etc AXA would love to have copies as a story board of the houses history is proposed.

 Naval Base Housing338 views1969. One of the detached residences (No 101) on Wellington Road allocated to civilian staff posted to Singapore. These overlooked the Dockyard Swimming Pool (now called The Terror Club) and the football pitch. Different from the regular 'Black & Whites' as these had living accommodation on the ground floor and bedrooms upstairs. Note the cowboy style swing doors downstairs and the drop down cane blinds (we called them chiks) upstairs. All to aid ventilation and cooling of the property. Jun 16, 2025

 Our bungalow at 12th Mile60 viewsOn arriving in Singapore in 1958 before being allocated an official residence on the Naval Base we found a newly built bungalow to rent (No 12 of about 16 on the site) at 12th Mile on the Sembawang Road. The bungalow had running water but no electricity supply. Lighting, cooking and the fridge all ran on kerosene which was delivered in large metal tins every couple of weeks. Today the bungalow has been redeveloped and stands on Jalan Mata Ayer.Jun 16, 2025

 Our pet monkey49 views1961. Our pet monkey 'Beppy' going for a walk from Fiji Road with Pete. He could usually be trusted to go off lead but on one occasion escaping his lead from home Beppy managed to find the nearby Tennis Courts where he proceeded to unscrew the huge floodlight bulbs. Most people on the Naval Base around 60-61 will know of 'Beppy' and his antics. Jun 16, 2025
