Our pet monkey55 views1961. Our pet monkey 'Beppy' going for a walk from Fiji Road with Pete. He could usually be trusted to go off lead but on one occasion escaping his lead from home Beppy managed to find the nearby Tennis Courts where he proceeded to unscrew the huge floodlight bulbs. Most people on the Naval Base around 60-61 will know of 'Beppy' and his antics. Jun 16, 2025

Our pet monkey35 views1961 - Many animals mainly cats and dogs were passed on between families coming and going from the Naval Base. In our case we took over the only monkey on the base. Beppy a blue rhesus macaque who turned out to be a very loyal pet and 'guard dog' for the property. Beppy was a great friend of the passing ice cream van. The driver ran an account with Beppy to supply an ice lolly on passing and ran up a large account that we settled every month.Jun 16, 2025

Singapore Naval Base - Fishing in the Dockyard (2)138 views1963. Peter Banks after a nights fishing off a floating dock in the Naval Dockyard. A good catch of Ikan Tenggiri. (Malay name). A shoal of these fish were found to be circling a couple of metres down under the overhanging floodlights at the end of the dock. A difficult fish to eat due to the mass of small bones in the flesh but our amah pound the whole fish into a paste and made them into tasty fish balls. Mar 27, 2025

A little bit of trick photography has been used for fun but it was a nice big fish. Because they are a flat and thin fish they are able to put up a tremendous fight when caught.Mar 27, 2025

Singapore Naval Base - Sembawang Photo Services. Mr T K Lee 1998145 views1998. After 33 years Pete Banks meets up with T K Lee of Sembawang Photo Services.
Passing through the old Naval Base in 1998 I am shocked to learn that a Mr T K Lee was now the photographer of choice for the US Navy families on the base and I immediately looked him up. Many of the photographs being uploaded to this site by ex Naval Base residents were taken by Mr Lee. He covered all the dances, galas, private birthday parties etc or he sold you the camera that you used yourself.
